What it is

The Ariston 61402252-01 is a magnesium sacrificial anode for Ariston storage electric water heaters. It sits inside the cylinder and corrodes in preference to the steel shell, drawing electrolytic attack away from the tank lining and extending cylinder life. It is the anode used across the Super Bravo 125, 150 and 200 range and the related AYVM wall-hung storage models.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The anode is visibly eaten away, pitted or reduced in diameter when the cylinder is opened for service
  • Hot water runs discoloured, brown or rusty at the tap
  • A sulphur or rotten-egg smell develops in the hot water supply
  • The anode has not been checked within the cylinder manufacturer's recommended service interval
  • The anode core is exposed along most of its length, meaning the magnesium has been largely consumed

Before you order

  • Confirm the cylinder is a Super Bravo 125, 150 or 200, or one of the AYVM models in the compatibility list, before ordering
  • Check the thread and length of the anode currently fitted against the M8 thread and 21.3 x 380 mm dimensions given here
  • Older stock and documentation may carry the earlier numbers 570285 or 65409007 in place of 61402252-01
  • Isolate the power supply and drain the cylinder before removing the old anode, and inspect the anode boss thread for damage while it is open
