What it is
A sacrificial anode manufactured by Ariston for use in hot water cylinders. The anode is designed to corrode preferentially to the cylinder body, protecting the steel shell from electrolytic attack. It is supplied with a 21.3 mm diameter and a 275 mm length, with an M5-M8 thread.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The anode rod is heavily corroded, pitted or significantly reduced in section
- Hot water is discoloured or carries a metallic taste
- A sulphur or rotten-egg odour is present in the hot water supply
- The cylinder is approaching or has passed the interval recommended for anode inspection
- The anode has been removed for inspection and shows little remaining sacrificial material
