What it is

The water return service tap is a Chaffoteaux isolation valve fitted to the heating return circuit of Britony Combi SE boilers. It allows the return pipework to be shut off for servicing, draining or component replacement without disturbing the rest of the system. The tap is operated by a spindle and handle, sealing against system pressure when closed.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Water weeping or dripping from the spindle or body of the tap
  • The tap will not turn, or turns with excessive force, indicating a seized spindle
  • The valve fails to shut off fully, so the return circuit cannot be isolated
  • Scale or corrosion deposits visible around the tap body or connections
  • Traces of water staining on the pipework or casing beneath the tap
