What it is
The Chaffoteaux 61002653 is an air separator head assembly, the upper section of the automatic air vent fitted to the heating circuit of Chaffoteaux and Baxi gas boilers. It sits at the highest point of the water path and separates entrained air from the circulating water before releasing it, which keeps the pump, heat exchanger and radiators free of airlocks. The assembly is listed under the air vents and air valves category, covering automatic and manual venting arrangements.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Radiators need bleeding repeatedly, with air returning to the system shortly after venting
- Gurgling, bubbling or kettling noises from the boiler during heating or hot water demand
- The pump runs noisily or the boiler locks out on a flow or overheat fault
- Water weeping or staining around the vent head, or a head that no longer seals when closed
- System pressure drifting or fluctuating without an obvious leak on the pipework
Before you order
- Check the GC number and appliance serial plate against the compatibility list, as several Chaffoteaux and Baxi models share similar vent assemblies
- Compare the numbers on the existing part with the alternative part numbers listed below before ordering
- Inspect the sealing washer or O-ring at the base of the assembly and renew it if it is compressed or perished
- This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Fitment listings are a guide, not a guarantee. Plant-room assemblies get modified on site more often than not. Send us the GC number off the data badge and a photo of the existing valve and we will confirm before anything is dispatched.
