What it is
A combined thermocouple and overheat thermostat assembly rated at 154°C, manufactured by Chaffoteaux for the Celt Star B boiler range. The thermocouple holds the pilot flame and proves flame presence, while the overheat thermostat cuts the burner if the appliance exceeds its safe temperature limit. This assembly is specified for appliances built from January 1995 onwards.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The pilot flame will not stay lit once the control knob is released
- The boiler repeatedly locks out or shuts down during a demand for heat
- The overheat thermostat trips before the appliance reaches normal operating temperature
- No hot water or heating despite the pilot being established
- Visible damage, corrosion or a loose connection at the thermocouple or thermostat probe
