What it is
The Alpha pipe water hammer arrestor (part 6.5630070) is a pipe assembly used on Alpha 240 and 280 series gas boilers. It absorbs the pressure surge created when water flow stops abruptly in the domestic hot water circuit, preventing the knocking or banging noise known as water hammer. The assembly incorporates a Caleffi arrestor element within the pipe run.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Banging or knocking from the pipework when a hot tap is closed
- Pulsing or juddering in the pipework during hot water draw-off
- Water hammer noise that continues after system pressure has been set correctly
- Weeping or leaks from the arrestor body or its connections
- Vibration transmitted through the boiler casing during draw-off
