What it is
The Altecnic Dirtmag IQ is a magnetic dirt separator used to remove magnetite and suspended debris from heating and cooling system water. This version is configured for horizontal installation and is fitted with 1 1/2" female x female screwed iron connections. It forms part of the system protection stage of a heating installation, helping to keep heat emitters and components clear of circulating sludge.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Sludge or magnetite is visible when the unit is drained or the collection point is opened
- Reduced flow, or a widening temperature differential across the system
- Cold spots at radiators that persist after balancing
- Weeping or dripping from the connection seals or the drain point
- System water discolours again shortly after a clean or flush
