What it is
The HT transformer is the ignition spark generator used on Hamworthy Ur series gas boilers. It produces the high-tension voltage that creates the spark at the ignition electrode, lighting the burner on demand. This unit is specified for appliances manufactured from March 1990 onwards.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No spark at the ignition electrode while the boiler calls for heat
- Boiler locks out on ignition failure despite a clean, correctly gapped electrode
- Audible arcing or ticking from the transformer body without burner light-up
- Visible cracking, tracking, burning or swelling on the transformer housing
- Intermittent ignition that faults more often in damp conditions
Before you order
- Confirm the appliance model and that it was manufactured from March 1990 onwards
- Check the ignition electrode and its lead before condemning the transformer
- Verify the existing transformer's part number against 533901007
- Inspect the electrode gap and lead insulation, as either can mimic transformer failure
