What it is

The Hamworthy Heat Exchanger Insulation Wrap is a four-section insulation blanket that fits around the heat exchanger body on Purwell Variheat floor standing boilers. It limits heat loss from the exchanger surface and keeps the appliance casing temperature down during operation. The blanket is supplied as a shaped multi-section wrap so it can be fitted around the exchanger without disturbing the water connections.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The blanket has broken down, crumbled or become brittle with age and no longer sits in contact with the exchanger surface
  • Sections of the insulation are missing, torn or have detached from the exchanger
  • The boiler casing or surrounding panels feel excessively hot in service
  • The insulation has been removed or damaged during a previous heat exchanger or burner repair and not refitted
  • Visible staining or water tracking through the blanket material, indicating a leak that has soaked the insulation

Before you order

  • Confirm the boiler model against the Purwell Variheat fit list above, as the blanket is shaped for this range only
  • Check whether the existing blanket is a four-section wrap and note how the sections are retained on the exchanger
  • Inspect the heat exchanger for leaks or corrosion before refitting insulation, so a damp blanket is not refitted over a fault
  • Have the appliance isolated and cooled before removing or fitting the wrap
