What it is

The Baxi NTC sensor, part number BAXI5114725, is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor used to monitor temperature within Baxi heating appliances. Its resistance falls as temperature rises, giving the appliance's control board a continuous temperature signal so that firing, modulation and domestic hot water delivery can be regulated accurately. It is a service component, replaced when the sensor drifts out of tolerance or fails open or short circuit rather than as part of routine servicing.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance locks out or fails to fire, often with a temperature-related fault code logged
  • Domestic hot water runs hot then cold, or the delivered temperature fluctuates noticeably
  • The flow or return temperature shown on the display or controls does not match the pipework temperature measured independently
  • The appliance short cycles, firing and shutting down repeatedly as it misreads system temperature
  • A resistance check across the sensor falls outside the expected curve for the ambient temperature at the probe

Before you order

  • Check the appliance model and GC number against the manufacturer's literature to confirm this sensor is the correct fitment
  • Compare the part number on the existing sensor with BAXI5114725 before removal
  • Note the sensor's position and orientation so the replacement is refitted the same way
  • Isolate the appliance electrically before working on the sensor circuit
