What it is

The Vokera 4961 is a short thermocouple supplied by Vokera for use in a range of the manufacturer's gas boilers. It sits in the pilot flame path and generates the small millivolt signal used to hold the gas valve open while a flame is proven. If the pilot is extinguished or the thermocouple fails, the signal drops and the valve closes to shut off the gas supply.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The pilot flame lights but will not stay lit once the button is released
  • The boiler locks out repeatedly, particularly after the pilot has gone out
  • The pilot goes out on its own during normal operation
  • The thermocouple tip is visibly sooty, pitted or discoloured
  • The pilot flame appears weak or unstable at the thermocouple tip
