What it is
The Main 404517 is an overheat thermostat supplied as a Thermodisc 36TXE31/14084. It monitors boiler temperature and interrupts the burner circuit if the appliance overheats, protecting the heat exchanger and casing. It is used across Main HE and Potterton Kingfisher MF, Suprima and Performa HE gas boiler families.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out and requires a manual reset before it will fire again
- Repeated overheat trips shortly after the boiler reaches temperature
- Burner cutting out before the appliance reaches its set flow temperature
- No heating or hot water because the overheat cut-out stays open
- Boiler firing briefly then shutting down on the overheat circuit
