What it is
The Riello probe is a burner spare for the GS20M range of Riello oil burners. It sits in the combustion head and provides the flame detection signal that the burner control box uses to prove ignition. If the signal is lost, the control box shuts the burner down and locks out.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The burner fires, then locks out after the safety time because no flame signal is proved
- Repeated or intermittent lockouts that clear on reset but return on the next cycle
- Soot, carbon or heat discolouration built up on the probe tip
- Cracked, chipped or discoloured ceramic insulator on the probe
- Visible damage, distortion or corrosion on the probe body or terminal

- Confirm the burner model and code on the appliance data plate against the fitment list above
- Check the existing probe for the same mounting and terminal arrangement before removal
- Inspect the probe lead and control box connections, as a poor connection can mimic a failed probe
- Isolate the electrical supply and the oil supply before removing the burner or probe
