What it is

The ignitor electrode and lead is the ignition component that carries the high-voltage spark from the ignition transformer to the burner, lighting the gas at start-up. It is manufactured by Alpha and supplied under part number 3.017477 for the Intec 28S (LPG) and a wide spread of Alpha CD-series appliances. The electrode sits in the combustion path and the attached lead routes back to the ignition source, so both the ceramic body and the cable insulation are exposed to heat and vibration over the life of the boiler.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler attempts to fire but there is no spark at the burner, or the spark is weak and intermittent.
  • Repeated lockouts on start-up, particularly in damp or cold conditions.
  • Visible cracking, crazing or blackening of the ceramic insulator.
  • Charred, brittle or split insulation on the electrode lead, or a loose connection at the terminal.
  • The electrode tip is eroded, bent or heavily carbon-fouled and cannot be cleaned back to a reliable gap.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and, where shown on the data badge, the GC number before ordering, as several Alpha variants use different ignition arrangements.
  • Check the existing electrode and lead against the part number 3.017477 and the alternative numbers listed above.
  • Inspect the burner gasket and any seals disturbed during removal, and replace them if they are compressed or damaged.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
