What it is
The Alpha flow switch, part number 3.013211, is a water-side sensing component fitted to Alpha CB and CD series combination boilers. It sits in the domestic hot water circuit and detects when a hot water tap is opened, sending a signal to the boiler control board so the burner and pump start. Without a reliable signal, the boiler has no way of knowing that hot water has been demanded.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water production while the central heating continues to run normally.
- The boiler fails to fire when a hot water tap is opened, with no burner ignition on DHW demand.
- Hot water runs intermittently, cutting in and out as the switch signal drops.
- The control board does not register a hot water demand, so the pump and fan stay idle.
- Repeated lockouts or fault indications that appear only when hot water is drawn.
