What it is

The Baxi 248047 is a domestic hot water plate heat exchanger with a 12-plate stack, manufactured by Baxi. It sits in the domestic hot water circuit of a Baxi gas appliance, where the primary heating water passes across the plates and transfers heat to the incoming cold mains supply. The result is instantaneous hot water at the tap without a stored cylinder.

Plate heat exchangers of this type are compact and highly efficient, but the narrow waterways between the plates make them sensitive to scale and debris carried in hard water areas.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Hot water temperature fluctuating between hot and cold at the tap while the appliance is running
  • Domestic hot water running cool even though the heating circuit reaches temperature normally
  • Reduced hot water flow rate compared with the cold supply at the same outlet
  • Water weeping from the plate stack or from the connections at either end
  • Scale or debris build-up inside the plate passages, common in hard water areas

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and GC number against the data badge before ordering, as plate count and connection layout vary between Baxi appliances.
  • Check the plate count and connection arrangement on the existing exchanger match the replacement.
  • Inspect the seals and gaskets on the primary and domestic water connections and renew them if they are compressed or perished.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
