What it is

The Baxi 245341 is a modulating gas valve supplied by Baxi for use in its domestic gas appliances and in several Potterton and Main models from the same appliance family. It sits on the gas train ahead of the burner and varies the volume of gas passed to the burner in step with demand, so the appliance can raise and lower its output instead of running only at full rate or off. The valve carries the VK4105G1005 designation and is the modulating type, not a simple on/off solenoid valve.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance fires but will not modulate, holding a fixed flame rather than varying with demand
  • Repeated lockouts or flame-failure faults shortly after ignition
  • Unstable or weak flame, or a burner that drops out part way through a demand
  • Whistling, humming or other abnormal noise from the gas train
  • Erratic temperature control at the hot water outlet or radiators, with the appliance cycling more than usual

Before you order

  • Note the model and GC number from the appliance data badge and match them against the models listed above
  • Confirm the part number on the existing valve before ordering, as several valve types are used across these appliance ranges
  • Check whether the gas train jointing washers or seals are being reused or renewed as part of the job
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
