What it is
The Baxi 240396 is an automatic air vent used on Potterton heating appliances. It is mounted at a high point in the system, where air released from the water as it heats naturally collects. A float-operated valve opens to let that air escape and closes again once water reaches the seat, so the circuit stays free of airlocks without manual bleeding.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or dripping from the vent body or its cap
- Air repeatedly collecting at the top of radiators after bleeding
- Kettling, gurgling or rushing noises from the boiler during heat-up
- Pump noise or recurring airlocks in the system
- System pressure falling with no visible leak elsewhere on the circuit
