What it is
The Vaillant 181051 is a 10 litre expansion vessel for use in sealed heating systems. It provides the air cushion that absorbs the volume increase of water as it heats, keeping system pressure within a stable working range. The vessel is a serviceable component of the heating circuit rather than a combustion part.
Signs this part needs replacing
- System pressure climbs sharply once the appliance is up to temperature, then falls again as it cools.
- The pressure relief valve discharges water during heating cycles.
- The boiler needs frequent topping up because pressure keeps dropping.
- Water appears at the vessel's air charge valve when the Schrader cap is removed.
- The vessel feels heavy or full of water when tapped, or the charge pressure will not hold.
