The Ideal 179078 is a wiring harness that links the mechanical timer to the boiler's control circuit. It is manufactured by Ideal as a spare for the Independent and Independent + Combi range, where it carries the switching signals that let the timer bring the appliance on and off to schedule. The harness is supplied as a complete lead assembly, so a damaged or intermittent connection at the timer can be renewed without rewiring the plug by hand.

• The mechanical timer runs but the boiler does not respond to the switched periods.
• Heating or hot water comes on outside the set times, or drops out partway through a period.
• The timer works only when the harness is moved or the plug is pressed into place.
