What it is
The Ideal 178165 is an EMC filter used on Ideal Commercial Imax XEL boilers. It sits in the appliance's electrical circuit and suppresses electromagnetic interference generated by the boiler's components, keeping mains-borne noise away from the control electronics. It is supplied as a replacement for the filter originally fitted across the Imax XEL range.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Nuisance tripping of the RCD or MCB when the boiler is powered up
- Visible scorching, discolouration or a burnt smell around the filter
- Repeated electrical faults or erratic behaviour from the boiler control board
- Interference affecting nearby electrical equipment while the boiler is running
- No supply reaching the boiler despite a healthy feed at the isolator
Before you order
- Check your appliance model against the compatibility list before ordering.
- Match the part number 178165 to the filter currently fitted to the boiler.
- Isolate the electrical supply and allow the appliance to discharge before removing the filter.
- Fitting should be carried out by a competent engineer.
