What it is
The alarm lead harness is a wiring assembly supplied by Ideal for its commercial boiler range. It carries the alarm signal between the appliance control board and the alarm output circuit, so that a fault or lockout condition can be signalled remotely. The lead is supplied as a complete harness with its terminations fitted, ready to plug into the appliance wiring loom.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Alarm or fault signal fails to reach the remote alarm circuit even though the boiler has locked out
- Intermittent or spurious alarm indications that clear when the lead is moved
- Visible chafing, cracking or heat damage to the lead insulation
- Corroded, loose or discoloured terminals at either end of the harness
- Continuity fault traced through the alarm circuit during a service visit

- Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as the Imax XEL range uses more than one loom variant
- Check the existing lead against the part number 178160 before ordering, particularly where a previous repair has been carried out
- Inspect the mating connectors on the control board and alarm circuit for damage, as a worn connector can cause the same symptoms as a failed lead
- Isolate the electrical supply to the appliance before removing or refitting any wiring harness
