What it is
The Ideal Heat Engine 2 Coil (176905) is a heat exchanger assembly used in Ideal Vogue and Vogue Max condensing boilers. It carries heat from the combustion gases into the system water, making it the component that determines how much usable heat the boiler delivers to the heating circuit and hot water. The two-coil construction is specific to this Vogue variant, so the correct part number and GC number must be matched before ordering.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Heating or hot water output drops while the burner still fires normally
- Kettling, banging or gurgling noises coming from the heat exchanger
- Water weeping from the exchanger body or from its pipe connections
- Repeated overheat or lockout faults during a demand for heat
- System water discoloured by corrosion products circulating through the exchanger
Before you order
- Match the GC number on the appliance data badge against the compatibility list above
- Confirm the part number on the existing component and note the alternative number 1782713
- Inspect the seals and gaskets at the exchanger connections and replace any that are damaged before refitting
- Isolate the gas, water and electrical supplies and work to Ideal's service instructions for the model
