What it is
The Ideal 176899 is a fan gasket made by Ideal for its Vogue range of domestic boilers. It sits at the fan mounting face, sealing the joint so that combustion air and flue gases travel through the intended path rather than escaping into the casing. The gasket is a service item: it is disturbed whenever the fan is removed, and a flattened or perished seal will not reseal reliably once refitted.

- A whistling or high-pitched note around the fan housing while the boiler is running
- Soot marks, staining or condensate weeping at the fan mounting face
- Flue gas detected at the joint with a combustion analyser, or combustion readings drifting from the commissioned figures
- The gasket feels hard, flattened, cracked or brittle once the fan is lifted clear
- Fan noise or vibration that returns shortly after the fan has been refitted
