What it is
The Ideal 176898 is a fan assembly supplied for Ideal Vogue gas boilers. It moves the products of combustion through the heat exchanger and out to the flue, and it also feeds combustion air into the burner chamber. Because the fan sits at the heart of the combustion circuit, a worn or failing unit shows up quickly as noise, unstable ignition or a lockout.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Grinding, whining or rumbling noise from the fan area, often loudest at ignition or during modulation
- Boiler locking out or failing to fire, with a fan or air pressure related fault code on the display
- Repeated ignition attempts followed by shutdown, or the boiler dropping into a safe lockout shortly after start-up
- Overheating or short cycling where airflow through the appliance is reduced
- Visible damage, stiffness or play when the fan is turned by hand during a service
