Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder when the immersion is switched on and the circuit is live
- The element trips the MCB or RCD when energised
- Continuity or resistance test across the element shows an open circuit
- Scale build-up, corrosion or a weeping joint at the cylinder boss
- Water temperature is inconsistent, or the immersion cuts out earlier than expected
