What it is
The Ideal 176720 is a thermometer pit nut — the threaded fixing that secures the thermometer pocket (also called a thermowell) into the appliance. It is supplied by Ideal as a spare for their commercial and solar thermal ranges, and sits within the bolts, nuts and screws group of parts.
The nut holds the pocket in position so the sensing bulb or probe sits correctly in the flow of the medium being measured. A sound, correctly torqued nut keeps the pocket sealed and the temperature reading stable.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The thermometer pocket works loose or will not hold its position in the housing.
- Weeping or a damp trace around the pocket thread where the nut seats.
- Visible corrosion, pitting or thread damage on the nut, making it difficult to torque correctly.
- The nut has been over-tightened or cross-threaded during a previous service and no longer seals.
- Temperature readings drift or fluctuate because the pocket is not seated properly.
