What it is

The Ideal 176544 is a plate heat exchanger kit supplied for Ideal combi boilers rated at 24 kW. The plate heat exchanger sits on the domestic hot water side of a combi appliance, transferring heat from the primary circuit into the mains-fed water supply as it passes through the stacked plates. It is a serviceable component, so it is replaced when the plates become scaled, blocked or the unit begins to leak internally.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Domestic hot water runs hot then cold, or the temperature swings as taps are opened and closed
  • Reduced hot water flow rate with the boiler otherwise firing normally
  • Cold or only lukewarm water at the tap while the central heating circuit works as expected
  • Water weeping from the plate stack or from the seals around the exchanger
  • Scale or debris build-up on the plates after prolonged use in a hard water area

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and, where shown on the data badge, the GC number against the compatibility list before ordering
  • Check the existing part number on the component being replaced and cross-reference it with 1783281
  • Inspect the seals and gaskets on the exchanger connection points, as these are commonly disturbed during removal and refitting
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
