Ideal Earth Lead 176292

The Ideal 176292 is an earth lead supplied for Ideal Commercial appliances. It provides a low-resistance path to earth for the metalwork and electrical components inside the appliance, so that any fault current is safely diverted rather than remaining on exposed parts. The lead also helps keep the control circuit stable by giving the electronics a reliable reference to earth.

• The appliance intermittently locks out or fails to ignite with no obvious gas or ignition fault.
• Continuity testing across the lead shows a reading outside the expected range.
• The insulation is cracked, brittle, scorched or rubbed through where the lead passes a metal edge.
• Terminal ends are loose, corroded or blackened, giving a poor connection to the chassis or component.
• Electrical faults appear and disappear when the wiring loom is moved by hand.

• Isolate the electrical supply at the fused spur before removing or refitting the lead, and test for dead.
