What it is

The Ideal 176260 is an electrode ionisation kit used on Ideal Commercial appliances. The ionisation electrode sits in the burner area and senses whether a flame is present, sending a small signal back to the appliance control board. When that signal is lost, the board shuts the gas valve to keep the appliance safe.

It is supplied as an electrodes and ignitions spare under the Ideal Spares brand, and is the part to fit when flame sensing has become unreliable.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance locks out shortly after the burner lights, or fails to hold a flame.
  • Repeated lockouts that clear only after a manual reset.
  • Flame failure or ionisation fault codes shown on the appliance display.
  • Intermittent running, where the burner lights and then shuts down without an obvious cause.
  • The electrode tip is visibly eroded, cracked, distorted or coated with deposits when inspected.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list before ordering, as the same part number can appear across several build variants.
  • Cross-reference the alternative part number 1782765 if you are working from an older parts list or an existing component.
  • Inspect the electrode lead and any sealing washer or gasket on removal, as these are commonly disturbed during replacement and may need renewing at the same time.
  • Work on the appliance only with the power isolated, and follow the manufacturer's service instructions for electrode removal and refitting.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
