What it is

The Ideal 175683 is a 5 x 20mm cartridge fuse rated at 250V and 4A with a slow acting (T) characteristic. It is fitted to Ideal Commercial appliances, where it protects the control circuit and the components fed from it. Slow acting fuses are built to ride out the brief current surge that occurs when a pump, fan or transformer starts, so they do not blow on normal start-up. The glass body measures 5mm in diameter and 20mm in length, the standard size for this class of control fuse.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance is completely dead, with no display, no indicator lights and no response from the controls.
  • The boiler fails to fire, or the control panel behaves erratically.
  • The fuse is visibly blown, with a broken element, blackened glass or a scorched body.
  • A fresh fuse blows again shortly after fitting, which points to a fault elsewhere in the circuit rather than the fuse itself.
  • Intermittent operation or repeated lockouts that clear temporarily after the fuse is disturbed.

Before you order

  • Confirm part number 175683 against your appliance's parts list before ordering.
  • Match the size, current rating and speed to the original. A fast acting fuse is not a direct substitute for a slow acting one.
  • Note the markings on the original fuse before disposal so the replacement matches on all counts.
  • Isolate the electrical supply at the isolator before removing or fitting the fuse, and investigate the circuit if the fuse has blown more than once.
