What it is

The Ideal 175591 is an ignition electrode for Ideal gas boilers. It sits within the combustion and exhaust assembly and provides the spark that lights the burner during start-up, so the appliance can move from a demand signal to a stable flame.

The electrode is a serviceable item and is listed across a broad spread of Ideal appliances, including the Max System boilers and a large number of combination and classic models.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler reaches a demand for heat but fails to ignite, or ignition is intermittent.
  • Repeated lockouts shortly after start-up, often clearing on reset and returning.
  • No visible spark at the burner when the ignition sequence runs.
  • Cracking, erosion or a rounded tip on the electrode, or a widened spark gap.
  • Heavy white or grey deposits, carbon build-up or damp contamination around the electrode and its lead.

Before you order

  • Check the appliance GC number or serial plate against the compatibility list to confirm the electrode is correct for your model.
  • Note the alternative number N5809 when cross-referencing older documentation or stock.
  • Inspect the electrode lead and any gasket or seal at the burner cover, as these are commonly disturbed during replacement.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
