What it is
The Ideal automatic air vent (part number 174894) is a spare component used on Ideal domestic and commercial gas boilers. It sits in the boiler's water circuit and continuously releases air that would otherwise collect in the heat exchanger and pipework. It is listed by Ideal under the automatic air vents spare part group and is also referenced under alternative number 1780264.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Air continues to collect in the system after bleeding, with radiators needing repeated venting
- Gurgling, kettling or rushing water noises from the boiler during firing
- Water weeping or dripping from the vent body or its cap
- System pressure drifting down without any visible leak elsewhere on the installation
- Overheating or lockout faults linked to poor circulation and trapped air
Before you order
- Confirm the boiler model and GC number against the compatibility list, as the same appliance name can cover several output variants
- Check the existing vent on the appliance and compare it with part 174894 before ordering
- Note the alternative number 1780264 in case it appears on the old component or on supplier listings
