What it is
The Ideal 174814 is a diverter valve cartridge used in the Ideal Esprit HE range of domestic gas boilers. It sits inside the diverter valve body and moves to send primary water either around the central heating circuit or through the domestic hot water plate heat exchanger, depending on demand. Wear in the cartridge is a common cause of poor hot water performance and unwanted heating during a hot water draw-off.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Domestic hot water runs cold or only lukewarm while the heating is off
- Radiators warm up when a hot tap is opened
- Hot water temperature fluctuates or cycles during use
- Diverter valve fails to move between heating and hot water positions
- Boiler locks out or reports a fault when hot water is demanded
Before you order
- Confirm the boiler model and GC number against the compatibility list before ordering
- Check the appliance serial number, as the same model name can cover more than one build
- Inspect the valve body and seals while the cartridge is removed, and renew any worn O-rings or gaskets at the same time
