What it is

The Ideal 174812 is an expansion vessel kit supplied for Ideal Esprit HE series boilers. The vessel is a sealed, diaphragm-type pressure container that absorbs the volume increase of water as the heating circuit warms, keeping system pressure within the range the boiler expects. It forms part of the sealed heating system rather than the gas-carrying side of the appliance.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • System pressure rises sharply when the boiler heats up and falls again as it cools.
  • The boiler loses pressure repeatedly and needs regular topping up from the filling loop.
  • Water discharges from the pressure relief valve during normal heating cycles.
  • The vessel feels heavy or water is heard inside it when the Schrader valve is depressed.
  • The boiler locks out or shows a low-pressure fault shortly after firing.
