What it is
The Ideal 174560 is a brass drain valve pack supplied with a retaining clip and washer. It is used on the isolation valve arrangement of Ideal Evo, Isar, Icos and Esprit 2 boilers, where it sits on the pipework beneath the appliance. The valve lets an engineer or competent homeowner control the flow of water into the heating circuit and shut it off when the system needs draining, servicing or repairing.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping from the valve body, spindle or gland when the system is under pressure
- The valve spindle seizes or becomes stiff, so the flow cannot be shut off cleanly
- Visible corrosion, scale build-up or a cracked brass body around the connection
- Difficulty draining the appliance because the valve no longer closes fully
- Damp staining on the pipework or casing beneath the boiler after servicing
