What it is

The Ideal 174486 is a Primary Control Kit built around a printed circuit board (PCB) and supplied in V10 revision. It is the main control board for the appliance, handling ignition sequencing, temperature regulation, fan and pump signalling, and the safety interlocks that shut the boiler down when a fault is detected. As the primary control, it is the board that most other components report back to, so its condition directly affects how reliably the appliance runs.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out repeatedly and will not complete an ignition sequence
  • No response to a demand for heating or hot water, with the display dead or blank
  • Fault codes relating to the control board, flame detection or fan appear on the display
  • The appliance runs intermittently, cutting out partway through a cycle without an obvious external cause
  • Visible damage on the board itself, such as scorching, discoloured tracks or swollen capacitors

Before you order

  • Confirm the model and GC number from the appliance data badge, as control boards are model-specific
  • Check that the existing board is the V10 revision, since board revisions are not always interchangeable
  • Note the part number 174486 and any number printed on the board being replaced so the two can be compared
  • Work on the boiler casing and its controls should be carried out by a competent person, with the appliance isolated before the board is removed
