What it is

This is an Ideal temperature sensor (thermistor) supplied as a spare for the Imax Xtra range of commercial appliances. The thermistor changes its electrical resistance as its temperature changes, and the electronic control board reads that resistance to decide whether more or less heat is needed. It is a direct replacement item for the sensor fitted to these units, listed under Ideal part number 174415.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The appliance locks out or shuts down shortly after firing, with the control board reporting a temperature-related fault.
  • Heating or hot water output becomes erratic, cycling between overheating and running cold.
  • The boiler runs continuously without modulating, or fails to reach the set temperature.
  • Temperature readings on the display are clearly wrong compared with the actual flow or return temperature.
  • Intermittent faults that clear on reset and return once the appliance warms up.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as the Imax Xtra range uses more than one sensor position.
  • Check the part number on the existing sensor or the appliance's parts list before ordering, and note the alternative number 1780392 where it appears in older documentation.
  • Inspect the sensor pocket and any sealing washer or O-ring at the same time, as these are often disturbed when the sensor is removed.
