What it is

The Ideal air pressure switch, part 174064, is a safety device fitted to Classic HE and Optia boilers. It confirms that the combustion fan is running and shifting air before the appliance is permitted to fire, and the boiler's printed circuit board monitors the switch continuously. If the fan stops or the pressure signal is lost, the switch holds the boiler back so flue products cannot accumulate without a route to atmosphere.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out on a call for heat, often shortly after the fan starts
  • The fan runs but the burner never lights
  • Intermittent lockouts that clear on reset and then return
  • Repeated fault codes pointing to an air pressure or fan problem
  • The appliance will not fire from cold but runs normally once restarted

Before you order

  • Check the GC number on the appliance data badge against the compatibility list below
  • Confirm the exact model, as Classic HE and Optia variants differ in layout and connections
  • Inspect the fan, sensing tubes and pressure ports first, since blockages can imitate a switch fault
