What it is
The Ideal 173625 is a 7 litre expansion vessel used on Ideal domestic and commercial boilers. It is a sealed tank divided by a diaphragm, with a charge of air on one side and system water on the other. As the water in a sealed heating circuit heats and expands, the air cushion compresses to absorb the extra volume, keeping system pressure within safe limits and protecting the boiler and its components from pressure surges.
Signs this part needs replacing
- System pressure climbs sharply or repeatedly once the boiler is up to temperature
- Water discharges from the pressure relief valve during normal heating cycles
- Water appears at the air valve on the vessel, or no air pressure can be held when the charge is checked
- Boiler pressure falls soon after topping up, or a low pressure fault recurs
- Corrosion, scale or water staining around the vessel connection or mounting bracket
