What it is
The Ideal 173529 is a flame sensing electrode kit manufactured for Ideal domestic boilers. The electrode sits in the combustion path and signals the printed circuit board when a flame is established, allowing the boiler to prove ignition and continue running. It is supplied as a kit for the ICOS HE, ISAR HE and Esprit HE appliance families.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The boiler fires, then locks out shortly afterwards because no flame signal is returned to the board
- Repeated lockouts on ignition, sometimes clearing on reset and returning within a short period
- A visible crack, distortion or heavy contamination on the electrode probe or its ceramic insulator
- Damaged or brittle insulation on the electrode lead, or a loose connection at the plug
- Unstable flame detection causing intermittent shutdowns during a demand for heat or hot water
