The Ideal ignition electrode kit is a spark electrode assembly used across a wide range of Ideal domestic gas boilers, including the Elise, Esprit 2, Evo, Isar, Istor, Icos and Mexico families. The electrode sits at the burner and produces the high-voltage spark that ignites the gas/air mixture on a call for heat. Flame-detecting electrodes in the same circuit confirm that a flame has established, so the boiler does not keep supplying gas without ignition.

• The boiler attempts to fire but there is no spark at the burner, or the spark is weak and intermittent.
• Repeated ignition attempts end in a lockout or fault code rather than a stable flame.
• The boiler lights and then drops out shortly afterwards, pointing to a poor flame-detection signal.
• Visible cracking, crazing, carbon tracking or a burnt, eroded tip on the electrode.
• Damaged or brittle insulation on the electrode lead where it passes close to hot surfaces.

• Check the GC number and model badge on the appliance against the compatibility list, as this kit covers a large number of Ideal models.
• Cross-check the alternative numbers 1179514 and N9186 against any number printed on the old electrode or its packaging.
• Inspect the electrode lead and any burner gasket or seal at the same time, as these are commonly disturbed during replacement.
• This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
