What it is

The Ideal 172890 is a control panel support crossbar, supplied as part of the casing assembly group. It is manufactured by Ideal for its commercial boiler range and holds the control panel in its correct position within the casing, keeping the fascia and controls square and secure against the appliance frame.

Because it forms part of the outer casing structure, the crossbar is exposed to heat cycling and repeated panel removal during servicing, so it can distort or work loose over the life of the appliance.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The control panel sits out of square or will not line up with the casing fixings
  • The crossbar is bent, cracked or corroded at the mounting points
  • Rattling or vibration from the control panel area when the appliance runs
  • Panel screws will not tighten because the fixing holes have elongated or worn
  • The fascia feels loose when the casing is refitted after servicing

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and, where available, the GC number against the compatibility list before ordering
  • Check the part number on the existing crossbar or in the appliance documentation, as earlier builds may list 85758017 or 1179135
  • Inspect the casing fixings and any associated seals while the panel is off, and replace worn items at the same time
  • This is a casing component and does not carry gas, so no gas-carrying joint is broken during replacement
