What it is
The Ideal 172873 is a complete sight glass assembly used on Ideal Commercial Buccaneer appliances. It provides the viewing window through which an engineer inspects the burner flame inside the combustion chamber, so the glass must stay clear and properly sealed in its housing. The assembly is supplied as a complete unit rather than a bare glass disc.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Cracks, chips or crazing in the glass
- Discolouration or heavy sooting that cannot be cleaned off
- Condensation or moisture trapped behind the glass
- Flame observation is obscured, making combustion checks unreliable
- Signs of leakage or deterioration around the glass seating
Before you order
- Match your appliance model against the compatibility list before ordering, as the Buccaneer range covers several variants.
- Confirm the part number 172873 or the alternative number 1179118 against the old component or the appliance documentation.
- Check the condition of the gasket or seal around the glass seating, as this may need attention when the assembly is refitted.
