What it is

The Ideal air pressure switch, part number 172666, is a safety device fitted to Ideal Commercial boilers. It monitors the fan and confirms that air is being moved through the appliance, so the burner is only allowed to fire when there is a proven path for flue gases to leave the boiler. The printed circuit board reads the switch during the start-up sequence and will not let the appliance run if the fan has failed or the pressure signal is missing.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler locks out or refuses to fire even though the fan is running.
  • Ignition is attempted, then the appliance shuts down shortly after start-up.
  • A fault code or diagnostic message relating to air pressure or fan proving appears on the PCB.
  • The boiler runs intermittently and cuts out without an obvious cause elsewhere in the system.
  • The fan spins but the appliance never reaches the point of proving airflow and lighting.

Before you order

  • Check the GC number on the appliance data badge against the models listed above.
  • Compare the switch fitted to the boiler with part number 172666 and the alternative number 1178992 to confirm the match.
