What it is
The Ideal 172588 is an air pressure switch fitted to a number of Ideal gas boilers, including the Europa 224 and the Mini C24 and Mini S24 ranges. It proves that the fan is running and shifting air before the appliance is permitted to fire, acting as a safety interlock on the combustion side of the boiler.
The printed circuit board reads the switch during the start-up sequence and will not allow the burner to light if the signal is missing. That prevents the boiler running with a failed fan, where flue products would have no reliable path out of the appliance.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The fan runs on start-up but the boiler does not fire and goes to lockout
- Repeated lockouts during the ignition sequence, clearing on reset and returning
- Intermittent firing, with the boiler sometimes starting and sometimes not
- A fan or air pressure related fault code shown on the boiler display
- Lockout that appears after a fan replacement or after work on the flue
Before you order
- Confirm the GC number on the appliance data badge against the numbers listed here before ordering
- Check the boiler model and, where available, the serial number, as Ideal used this switch across several ranges
