What it is

The Ideal 172273 is a black suppressor lead used in Ideal Commercial Concord ES series appliances. It sits in the boiler's electrical circuit and damps electrical noise generated by switching components, keeping the control and ignition electronics working cleanly. The lead is supplied as a single assembly with the suppressor fitted.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Persistent electrical interference on the appliance, such as buzzing or crackling audible from the control area
  • Erratic ignition or nuisance lockouts that trace back to noise on the control circuit
  • Interference affecting nearby radios, televisions or other household electronics when the boiler runs
  • Visible damage to the lead, including cracked or perished insulation, scorching or a loose terminal
  • Continuity or resistance readings on the suppressor that fall outside the expected range during a service check

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as the lead is used across several Concord ES variants
  • Check the old lead for the previous number 8358-4915 or the alternative number 1178656 before ordering
  • Isolate the electrical supply at the fused spur and prove dead before removing or refitting the lead
  • Inspect the surrounding wiring and terminals while the lead is out, as heat damage often affects more than one component
