What it is

The Ideal 172175 is a front lower insulation panel used in Ideal Commercial Concord boiler assemblies. It is the moulded insulating section that sits at the lower front of the appliance, where it limits heat transfer from the hot internal surfaces to the surrounding casing and components. The part is listed by Ideal under the description FRT LOWER INSULATION and is also catalogued under the Keston brand.

Insulation panels of this type degrade over time. Once the material becomes brittle, damp or compressed, it no longer performs its intended job and should be renewed as part of a service or repair.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The insulation surface is crumbling, flaking or shedding fibres when touched.
  • The panel has become damp, soft or compressed and no longer holds its shape against the casing.
  • Visible scorching, discolouration or heat marking on the panel or the metalwork behind it.
  • The panel has cracked or broken away from its mounting position, leaving an exposed hot surface.
  • Condensation or corrosion appearing on adjacent components that the insulation would normally shield.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as Concord variants use different insulation sections.
  • Check the previous number 8358-4026 against the panel already fitted to be sure the correct item is being replaced.
  • Inspect any retaining clips, studs or seals around the panel at the same time, as these are separate items.
  • Work on the appliance casing and internal components should be carried out by a competent engineer.
