What it is

The Ideal 172169 is the front upper insulation panel used on Ideal Commercial Concord boiler ranges. It sits against the upper front section of the appliance, forming part of the thermal barrier that keeps heat inside the combustion and heat exchanger area rather than escaping into the casing and the room. Over time these panels bake, crumble and lose their insulating value, so they are treated as a service item rather than a permanent fixture.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The panel is brittle, flaking or breaking up when touched, leaving loose insulation material inside the casing.
  • Visible scorching, darkening or crumbling around the upper front section of the boiler.
  • Casing surfaces above the combustion area running noticeably hotter than usual.
  • Higher than expected heat loss from the appliance, or a general drop in efficiency with no other obvious cause.
  • Insulation material found loose in the base of the boiler or around the burner area during a service.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as Concord variants use different insulation sets.
  • Check the number printed or moulded on the old panel — 8358-4019 identifies the same item on earlier builds.
  • Inspect the surrounding insulation panels and seals at the same time; if one has degraded, adjacent panels are often in a similar condition.
