What it is
The rear body insulation is a moulded thermal barrier that sits against the rear section of the heat exchanger body on Ideal Commercial Concord appliances. It is manufactured by Ideal and supplied under part number 172162, replacing the earlier reference 8358-4011. Its job is to hold heat inside the combustion and heat exchange area rather than letting it radiate into the appliance casing and the surrounding space.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The insulation is cracked, crumbled or breaking away from the rear body.
- Visible scorching, charring or heavy discolouration on the insulation surface.
- Heat escaping into the appliance casing, with the outer panels running noticeably hot.
- Insulation material has dropped or shifted, leaving part of the rear body exposed.
- Debris from a degraded insulation blanket found inside the combustion area during a service.
